Germany is still world champion in the field of export (Statistical Federal Office 2007). Standardization is a decisive strategic and quite practical instrument to guarantee this position. This applies especially for convergence-supporting technology fields, to which the information and communication technology (in German "IKT", international "ICT") belongs to and takes the lead. One evidence for this is the innovation alliance "SemProM - Digital product memory" (http://www.bmf.de/de/9099.php) founded on 2008-04-29 in Saarbrücken, Germany, in which enterprises of very different fields follow up a common point of view on the use of ICT in logistics. All projects using ICT, for example in the public administration (e-Government) ore in health service (e-Health), have a wide attention in the community and economy. All of us are concerned!
Also in the field of standardization this interdisciplinary needs special procedures. The creation of connections, the improvement of combinations by transfering solutions in different areas of application, the clearing up of interoperability-hindrances and avoidance of double expenditure of labour is therefore an independent task in ICT-standardization.
For this reason DIN, the German institute for standardization, founded the Presidial Committee FOCUS.ICT in 2006. The stakeholder in the area of ICT-standardization and its applications meet regularly in FOCUS.ICT in order to analyze and to accompany more and more project-oriented current standardization task as well as those which are to be expected in the near future.
